The tower crane is an important upgrade equipment in the construction industry, a new flat-top tower crane is widely used as it’s facilitate assemble, the good load-carrying capability of the lifting arm and so on. In order to adapt the market development, a tower crane manufacturer in Xiangtan, research the flat-top tower crane, and I participate in the boom design. To take the safety and efficiency into account, the lifting arm of QTP100tower crane has been studied based on the various load analyse, which the lifting arm suffered. The lifting arm of the flat-top tower crane has been designed, so as finite element analysis and the structural optimization have been carried out.(1) The development and research status of the flat-top tower crane is described in this paper, and then a variety of loads the lifting arm suffered and the process in the calculation is analysed, the difference between the limit state stress method and the admissible stress method is compared, it is the reached the conclusion that allowable stress method is more appropriate in the structure calculation while the limit state stress is more reasonable in the nonlinear finite element simulation;(2) The mechanical model has been established based on the charictritics of flat-top tower crane and the application structural mechanics, theoretical mechanics and materials mechanics, etc.the various load which flat-top tower crane suffered is calculated and transferred to a direct pull and pressure force of each bar, the desired geometric dimensionsfinal will be designed combined with the pull and pressure force and the stability requirements, the design of the lifting arm of QTP100structure has been completed;(3) A parameterized finite element model of the lifting arm was established with ANSYS APDL, the two working conditions were simulated by the FEM. The simulation results show that the strength of the lifting arm under each load satisfy the design requirements. The reasonability of the calculation has been verifed;(4) The stress of the lifting arm was tested, the stress of some key points showed that the overall strength satisfy the requirements, the fit of test results and simulation results verify the correct of the design calculations and simulation;(5) The parametric model established above was optimized by ANSYS optimization module, optimization results shows that by changing the cross-section geometric dimensions, there is14%weight optimization of the lifting arm in all.
