The safety and stability of surge tank is related to the operation of hydropower station and waterdiversion system, therefore it is necessary to ensure the safety of surge tank. To solve the engineeringsubject which is static and dynamic stability analysis of the structure surge tank, based on related research, static and dynamic stability analysis based on three-dimension finite element method was conductedthrough the large generally used finite element software ABAQUS. The main contents include thefollowing aspects:(1) Three-dimensional model was built by ABAQUS. In the model, surrounding rock and lining weresimulated, the material properties of surrounding rock and lining were defined, boundary conditions andloads were determined, and the surrounding rock and lining were divided into finite elements.(2) Balance of crustal stress was made. And the result showed well through proving.(3) Static finite element Analysis of the surge tank of Bulunkou-Konggur hydropower station wasconducted in the highest gushing level condition. The stability of the surge tank was evaluated. Somemeasures were supported to improve the stability of the supporting structure.(4) Hydrodynamic was defined by the model of added mass and loaded through building user elementand writing a related subroutine.(5) Earthquake waves were selected and adjusted based on related specifications and designspecifications of the structure.(6) Rayleigh damping was selected and considered as the damping of structure. The relatedparameters of Rayleigh damping were calculated based on natural frequencies which were given throughnatural vibration frequency.(7) Based on Static finite element Analysis of the surge tank of Bulunkou-Konggur hydropowerstation in the highest gushing level condition, dynamic finite element Analysis was conducted. Accordingto the research of the time-history curves of displacement stress, the stability of the surge tank wasevaluated.
