Sandbags have been used widely in fields of coast protection dam, port, wharf, landreclamation engineering etc. However, so far,text and theory research on the mechanism ofsandbags has remains to be perfect,which limits its further promotion in the engineering.This article summarizes mechanical properties test and theory research of sandbags athome and abroad. Then, the mechanical property of sandbags was studied through uniaxialcompression tests and the theory of calculation methods of mechanical parameters was putforward.the main contents are listed as follows:First of all, Refer to the relevant literature and give a brief analysis of limitations ofprevious test and theory, introduce the main content of this paper.Then, the uniaxial compression tests on different filling degree both with a singlesandbag and three sandbags are performed to study the stress-strain relation and its limitstrength, its enhancement mechanism and failure mode are analyzed, based on this, combinedwith the relevant constitutive equations, its strength are estimated.Finally, By analyzing two theory models respectively for the mechanical properties ofsandbags under different filling degree, obtain the limit load and equivalent cohesiveforce;And compared with test results, verify the correctness of the theoretical calculationformula.
