An expandable/foldable mechanism is a kind of mechanisms which has a compact configuration in the folded state and has the motion characteristics of mechanisms during the deployment process, and has a large span in the fully expanded state. And a shape-changing mechanism is a kind of mechanisms which has the controlable capability of changing shape. And these tow kinds of mechanisms are summerized as structural-functional mechanism.Firstly, the method of designing the expandable/foldable mechanism is studied. The mechanism based on the Scissor Like Element is discussed. The Scissor Like Element mainly include basic straight unit, straight polarity unit and angulated unit. A series of deployable/foldable mechanisms can be constructed using different combination of these units.Secondly, the kinematics of the Scissor Like Element based deployable/foldable mechanism is introduced. The foldability vectors and the foldability equations are introduced. Specific analysis of the deployable/foldable mechanism constituted by different units is made. The conditions of this kind of mechanism to be foldable are summerized.Then, the design an expandable radar calibration sphere based on Scissor Like Unit is introduced. This part studies the characteristics of the spherical structure based on the truncated icosahedron, and the expandable sphere based on the icosahedron sphere is introduced. And the3D software is used to the complete the structural simulation. The kinematics of the specific mechanism is studied.At last, the method of synthesising the shape-chaning mechanism is introduced. The steps of designing this kind of mechanism are determined. And the methods of each step are introduced. And the design of specific shape-changing mechanism is introduced.The design approach of structural-functional mechanism containing expandable/foldable mechanism and shape-changing mechanism provides a theoretical foundation, and has some practical value.
