With the development of power electronics technology in the power system, manynew high-power switching devices (IGBT, IGCT, IEGT, etc.) has been widely usingpower compensation device. Southern Power Grid the35kV/±200MVar is the mostrepresentative, making a major breakthrough in voltage level and capacity.At present, STATCOM structure, control strategy and applications have many morearticles, but very few articles about STATCOM reliability. STATCOM makes a veryimportant role in improving the system voltage, improving transmission capacity to resistthe grid accident. Therefore, the research of STATCOM reliability is essential. The articletakes35kV/±200MVarSTATCOM southern network for research background, startingfrom the STATCOM basic principles and the main components, using the "pyramid"integrated assessment models to establish the reliability model of the STATCOM corepart of the valve block unit and the main circuit structure, and makes the reliability of theanalysis and forecast. The disadvantage of the reliability model of the "pyramid" is asingle data structure, the reliability is not high. South Network STATCOM is a largecomplex systems, the STATCOM has just put into operation, the system-levelexperimental data related to the reliability of the scene is less, to this situation, the articleuses the Bayesian information fusion method, previously established the valve of thegroup reliability information data as prior information, making the theoretical analysismodel of the structure of the main circuit of the STATCOM. This approach has morecredibility than simply rely on the pyramid model, improving the reliability estimationaccuracy. But the overall of STATCOM reliability need to further analysis of field faultdata statistics and information.
