The rapid development of the auto industry has brought about seriousenvironment pollution and energy crisis, and electric vehicles (EVs) become animportant way to solve these two problems. However, the deficiency of the endurancemileage has become the main obstacle which restricts the development of EV becausethe battery technology has not got rudimentary breakthrough. Electric vehiclecharging stations solve the problem and provide a basic socialized support to promotethe development of electric vehicles. As a core part of the electric vehicle chargingstations, it is necessary to carry out in-deep research on charging system.In order to realize fast, efficiently and safely charging, this paper carries outdetailed study on EV batteries. Firstly, this paper expounds the basic concepts relatedto the battery, analyses the character of different types battery’s charging anddischarging, followed by the battery charging method and control strategy. Secondly,several topologies of FB ZVZCS converter are studied, and the topology which usesdiodes and a capacitor clamp circuit in secondary part is selected as the researchobject in this paper, a detailed analysis on the operating principle and the realizationconditions of ZVZCS are done. Based on these analyses, the main circuit parametersare designed. Then, simulation models of charging system is constructed under theplatform of Matlab/Simulink, and the simulation experiments are carried out and thesimulative waveforms are given. Finally, the FB ZVZCS converter based chargercontrol system are designed, the system includes the modules of the average currentmode control closed loop circuit, drive circuit, protection circuit and etc, where themicroprocessor MSP430F149and the phase-shift controller UC3875are used. Thesoftware flowcharts of control system are also given.
