Based on a large number of studies about temperature effect theory on structure or component, it shows that the effects definitely can not be ignored. However, the way to quantify the effects is still uncertain during the process of design. Concretely, value of the effects is lack of a universally accepted standard in the codes of different countries or even can not be found in other ones. For some special and complex structural systems, values and portfolio of the temperature effect is still in the exploratory stage. Therefore, the study of temperature effect for the multi-story and multi-span steel structure in large-scale thermal power plant are theoretical significant as usual.In the paper, finite element analysis is done, based on a certain1000MW the steel frame-bent structure in large-scale thermal power plant which is multi-story and multi-span, and is vertically irregular to the lateral resistance system. First of all, temperature conditions are confirmed on the basis of the definition of temperature difference, and using the finite element analysis software MIDAS/GEN to analyze temperature effect on mechanical performance of the steel frame-bent structure under different temperature conditions,we have obtained the whole deformation characteristics of structure; the internal force distribution of the main bearing carriers and their change rules along with the temperature difference; the stress distribution of the main bearing carriers and the maximum temperature stress account for the proportion of the steel yield strength; then the author come to the conclusion of the temperature effect rule of structure and thus confirm to the structural weak part. Secondly, referring to certain references, the author deduced the buckling equation of one-stepped column considering the temperature lateral deformation, and compared relevant clause on the code for design of steel structure, study the influence of the temperature lateral deformation、stiffness factor between the upper and lower columns、critical force parameters on the calculation length factors of one-stepped column, then analysis the calculation length factors of one-stepped column under considering the temperature lateral deformation which combined with the real project. Relevant research achievements provided the reference comments for research and the design of this type of steel-structure factory. At last, the author summarized the research results and put forward the further research content.
