The performance of the vehicle suspension system has a direct effect to therunning smoothness and handling safety of the cars. With the methods of MATLABand ADAMS Co-simulation capability, the paper presents us a penetrating analysis andlays emphasis on the research about the controlling strategy of semi-active suspensionsystem based on ER damper, aiming at improving the running smoothness of thevehicles.①A brief introduction to the purpose and significance of the topics in this article,together with the domestic and overseas research on the ER damper. Furthermore, Ialso presents several commonly-used semi-active suspension control theory, finally, itlist the goal and mission of this content;②A simple description of the mechanism of ER fluids and its mechanicalproperties and electrical properties. Give a description of the operating principle anddesign philosophy of the ER damper make a penetrating analysis of the mathematicalmodel of the damping force for two Cartridge Style ER damper, selecting thethree-Cartridge ER damper for the co-simulation object of this paper, and usingMATLAB software to make a simulation model of the ER damper;③A elaboration about the main index of the performance of the suspension(body acceleration, suspension working space, dynamic tire deformation); Then aidedby the analysis of road roughness and power spectral, I make a random road model andsimulation results; To determine the kinetic equation aided by a simplified model of theER semi-active suspension; Eventually, using the ADAMS software to establishmechanical simulation model;④Focusing on the design of the control strategy. With comprehensive study ofclassical controlling theory and modern control theory and associate with thecharacteristics of the ER damper, my thesis is aimed at improving vehicle runningsmoothness and helping people to make a reasonable and innovative design forsemi-active suspension control strategy. With the help of MATLAB/Simulink module,it is easily approached to make the simulation models for PID control, fuzzy-PIDcontrol, and adaptive fuzzy-PID control.⑤Finally, after the communication connection between MATLAB and ADAMSby means of ADAMS/Controls module, combined with the sub-module and the module, I make the co-simulation model of the corresponding control strategy with simulationand at last analyze the simulation results, manifesting that the designed semi-activesuspension by three control strategies on vehicle has obtained a greater optimization onthe running smoothness compared with the passive suspension, among which theAdaptive Fuzzy-PID control strategy has made the best achievements.Making use of co-simulation method so as to avoid the complicated dynamicsequations of the suspension modeling, the thesis can provide a fresh reflection on thestudy of many complex control systems in the car and a guiding significance on theresearch and design of the semi-active suspension based on the ER damper.
