Water is the source of life. In the process of urbanization, complex activities of human have an increasing impact on water resource. The safety of drinking water source is directly related to the quality of drinking water. Meanwhile, the environment around the drinking water also has a great influence on water resource. It not only relates to physical and mental health of urban residents and their family happiness, but it also relates the stability and harmony of the whole society. It even has a great influence on long-term development of social economy. Therefore, it is significant to protect drinking water source in cities from pollution.It was taken drinking water source in major cities in Beibei District—the section of Dongyang of Jialing River and the water points of Jinyun Mountain as research objects in this paper. It was adopted the methods of water quality classification combined with single factor evaluation to evaluate the quality of water resource according to ten quality index of water. Besides, it was adopted the method of comprehensive nutrition state index to analyze eutrophy of water source. It has been drawn the following conclusions.1. The evaluation results show that the current situation of drinking water source in Beibei District is generally up to water quality standard III, which meets the criterion of drinking water. The nitrogen content of all drinking water sources exceed standard; however, its overall quality is generally good. The score of six drinking water sources in comprehensive index of eutrophy are36.73、31.12、33.54、30.12、31.28、30.31; all of them belong to medium nutrition states, and its qualitative assessment is good.2. To protect the sustainable development of drinking water sources, combined with the results of water quality evaluation, we put forward corresponding engineering and non-engineering measures in the following three aspects:point pollution, area pollution, and ecological restoration. The measures include the following projects: transportation of household garbage, pretreatment of sewage, biological treatment of rural waste, protection of ecological agriculture, dredging sediment, ecological floating bed, artificial wetland, and isolation protection and so on.3. After analysis of the effects of protection measures, it was found that they have good effects on improvement and protection of water environment and ecological environment. It is able to provide powerful guarantee for rapid development of society; it also creates considerable economic benefits. What’s more, it makes contribution to agricultural development and social stability. Thus, it can be seen that the effects of these protection measures are obvious; there is a significant meaning of this paper.
