Reservoir is an important foundation and safeguard for sustained economic steadydevelopment in modern society. Reservoir’s benefit directly depends on the size of itscapacity, and the sediment deposition is the root cause of the loss. Reservoirsedimentation causes backwater uplift and extends to the upstream, which will takemany negative problems such as reservoir immersion, waterlogging, salinization andflood levels increased significantly at the same frequency. The raise of backwater levelwhich caused by silting will further aggravate the sediment deposition. Therefore, it isof great significance to investigate the coupling relationship between the reservoirsediment deposition and the backwater elevation.Based on the generalized experiment and one-dimensional numerical simulationmethod, this paper study the relationship between the reservoir sedimentation andbackwater elevation, the main research conclusions are as follows:(1) Establish a set of variable slope and muddy water flume system (60m x0.4mx0.4m, bottom slope0≤J≤1.0﹪), which can simulate the characteristics of reservoirbackwater and lay a foundation for the study of the relationship between the reservoirsedimentation and backwater;(2) A set of flow and suspended sediment adding system was developed based onthe deficiencies of muddy water flume test. It biggest characteristics is effectivelyremove bubbles on the surface of the sediment and make the characteristics of sedimentsuspension, transportation and sediment accordance with the natural water flow beforeentering the experiment flume. This new system was successfully applied to theexperiment and the effect is satisfied.(3)The one dimensional model is verified based on the result of generalizedreservoir sedimentation experiment, and the result was satisfied. The model can be usedto simulate the reservoir sedimentation which offer and mathematical foundation toinvestigate the relationship between reservoir sediment and backwater.(4) A series of generalized physical model was carried out and the sedimentationand backwater along the flume are measured. Based on the preliminary analysis ofexperiment result, the coupling result of reservoir sedimentation and backwater areobtained.(5) As the limitations of generalized reservoir sedimentation experiment, a largenumber of mathematical simulations are calculated in order to further explore the relationship between the sedimentation and backwater. Based on the simulation result, the relationship of before equilibrium (the main body deposition period from thedeposition appears to deposition extend to the dam) and after equilibrium (the periodafter deposition in advance to reservoir) are obtained.(6) Based on the reservoir sediment numerical simulation results, the relationshipbetween reservoir sedimentation extend and backwater elevation is studied.
