With China’s rapid economic development, more and more cities are buildingunderground structures to ease the traffic pressure, and to resolve the contradictionbetween the increasingly scarce ground space and the high-speed improvement ofthe urban area. Due to the structural properties of the underground structures, oncedamaged by strong earthquakes, would cause heavy casualties, and thereconstruction work would become more difficult. Thus, more attention should bepaid to the seismic analysis of the underground structures. The underground structure is surrounded by soil medium in all direction, sothe dynamic loads acted on the underground structure would cause it to generatedifferent dynamic responses from that of the ground structures. Thus, the dynamicinteraction between the underground structure and its surrounding soil mediumshould be taken full account of. In this paper, the finite element method softwareANSYS was used to simulate the system composed of the underground structureand its surrounding soil medium, and its dynamic responses analyzed.First, by using the life-and-death element, the underground structureconstruction process from the excavation to its completion was simulated, obtaining the stress state of the underground structure throughout the constructionprocess.Secondly, modal analysis of the soil-structure system was made, obtaining thesystem’s mode shapes, natural frequencies and natural period.Last, with the use of time history analysis method, the dynamic response ofunderground structure under horizontal seismic action and horizontal-verticalseismic action were obtained and compared. In this paper, dynamic responses of the underground structure were analyzedand discussed, and some meaningful conclusions were made. These conclusionswould have some reference value in the seismic analysis of underground structures.
