With the rapid development of the automobile industry and sustained increase of car ownership, more and more traffic accidents occur. According to a large number of statistics, fatigue driving has now become one of the important factors which cause traffic accidents, which is a serious threat to people’s lives and property. Based on the characteristics of the driver to operate the steering wheel under different working status, a monitoring system of driver working status is designed in this paper. The system achieves real-time monitoring of driver status.This paper analyzes the impact of fatigue driving to the safety of road traffic, and introduces the research at this stage. Based on this, the design is proposed and expounds the theory of measuring the angle with acceleration sensor. The hardware is circuit design of microcontroller MSP430F149as the core of the system which includes external acceleration sensor module, TFT LCD module and voice broadcast module. The software includes embedded software and PC management platform software. Embedded software includes low-power design of MSP430F149and program design of each functional module. Lab VIEW is used for each sub-function design in PC management platform. During driving simulation, rotation data of steering wheel is gathered with acceleration sensor, which is transmitted to PC with MSP430F149through the serial port. The data is read, processed, displayed and made to statements with Lab VIEW, then obtains two characteristic indicators of steering wheel operating which can reflect the driver’s working status through data analysis. The characteristic indicators include frequency and extent of the correcting the steering wheel. According to these, function model is founded to distinguish the driver’s working status. At last, the data and distinguishing result are displayed on the screen for driver’s reference, and broadcasted to remind driver, which solves the security problems of fatigue driving effectively.The monitoring system of driver working status can monitor the state of driver fatigue effectively in this paper, which can ensure the driver’s driving safety, improve and supply the existing fatigue driving monitoring system, and provide a guarantee to the safety of road traffic, plays a very important role.
