With the rapid development of social economy, urban rail transit has become to be oneof the important symbols of the modernization of transportation. One of the key technologiesfor automatic train control system is train locating and tracking. The real-time performanceand accuracy of positioning directly affect the safe operation and efficiency of the train. Howto get the accurate position and speed information in time is the precondition to ensure thetrain run safety and efficiently. Consequently, it is necessary to research a method to achievetrain locating and tracking with high precision and high reliability. The dissertation is based on the wireless sensor networks, and combined with thecharacteristics of urban rail transit lines. The architecture of the tracking system based on thewireless sensor networks, the deployment strategies of the sensor networks, and a trackingalgorithm are researched. The main works of the thesis are as following:The wireless sensor networks model of the train tracking is established. According to thefunctional demand of the train locating for automatic train control system, the tracking systembased on the wireless sensor networks is established. The basic principles of the trackingsystem are described, and the communication protocol of sensor networks is proposed.Sensor network deployment strategies for train tracking are proposed. The thesisresearched a deployment method of wireless sensor networks which based on the partitioncoverage of isosceles triangle. Because of energy hole which exists in the linear monitoringnetworks, the balance of energy consumption based node grouping deployment strategy andthe sleep scheduling mechanism of nodes in group are researched. From the construction costand the real-time performance of networks, the optimal deployment strategy of wirelesssensor networks for train tracking was researched, and constraint equation was given. Finally, the thesis emulates the network coverage and node’s life cycle, and analysis of the simulationresults.Wireless sensor networks based the train tracking algorithm is researched. According tothe optimal deployment strategy of wireless sensor networks, an improved weighted centroidalgorithm is researched and used for locating of vehicle-mounted mobile node. To save thenetworks energy consumption and prolong the networks life, the particle filter predictionbased tracking algorithm is researched. Finally, the simulation and verification of the traintracking algorithm in linear and non-linear movement scenarios is finished.
