Articulated dump truck is a kind of engineering vehicles developed in Europe in the1960s, which has suspension system, braking system, lifting and tilting system, frame and steering system. It is widely used in mining, railway engineering and hydropower engineering and so on. Due to the complex work environment, running in the sandstone and mine operation all the year round, the frame will be obvious vibration and shock phenomenon. The phenomenon is caused by vertical load and lateral load, resulting in a frame early deformation or fracture within the service life. In order to further improve the product quality of the dump truck, it is necessary to study the fatigue life and structure strength of the frame.In this paper, the fatigue life of the articulated dump truck frame designed by the Institute is estimated combining with the actual damage phenomena appeared in the process of using. By using ANSYS/FE-SAFE, the fatigue life forecast is performed based on computer aided design, finite element method and multi-body dynamic simulation. The main work done of the paper is as follows: First of all, I establish and simplify the articulated dump truck frame model and frame accessories models using three dimensional modeling software SolidWorks. Then the frame are analyzed in static stress by using finite analysis software ANSYS. The analysis is divided into six kinds of situations according to the actual working environment, followed by fully loaded stationary conditions, loaded with bending and torsion conditions, full load starting conditions, fully loaded with braking condition, loaded with cornering conditions and full loaded12-degree climbing conditions.Then the frame model date is imported to ADAMS. Load is applied to the frame according to the actual load of the frame. The analysis is divided into eight kind of situation according to the actual working environment, followed by flat road full loaded conditions, triangle boss road conditions, Ⅴ-shaped pit road conditions, rectangular pit road conditions, sinusoidal road conditions, right cosine left sinusoidal road conditions and full loaded12-degree downhill and uphill conditions. The load spectrum is required in fatigue analysis.Finally, select the S-N curve of the frame material. The fatigue working life and the fatigue safety factor of the articulated dump truck are obtained by using ANSYS/FE-SAFE combining with the static strength analysis and load spectrum from the front.The analysis results show that the life of the dump truck frame is similar to the actual. The frame fatigue life analysis method made it fact that designer can earlier forecast product quality and fatigue life of frame. It can provide reference basis for the further research and optimization of the frame. So that we can make the enterprise to shorten production development cycle, reduce production cost and improve market competition.
