Over the past decade, with the rapid increase of China’s steel production, the Steelstructure is more and more widely applied in industrial and civil buildings. However,China is an earthquake-prone country. The Wenchuan earthquake has brought us gravedisaster in2008. Therefore, the in-depth study of the seismic structure is an importantissue in front of us. This paper made an overall analysis on the performance of steelstructure, and learned some foreign engineering examples on the steel structure system.And this paper is probed into the seismic performance and and adaptability of Steelframe structure and R.C frame structure residences.This paper presented the steel frame system for residential building.It mainlyestablished the the corresponding relationship of the resistance index and the seismicperformance. The resistance index mainly includes the structural stress, deformation,stability, and so on. Then it analysed the seismic performance between the steel framestructure and the R.C frame structure comparatively. The economic performanceevaluation from the cost are given.Finally it get the conclusion that the steel framestructure residence has higher seismic performance and better economic performancewhen the seismic fortification intensity is7degrees (0.1g).This paper mainly did the following several aspects work:1. A five layer residence is used as the object of study. The paper chosed the steelframe structure system and the R.C frame structure system. It considered the structurelayout of construction on the requirements of used space, the rationality of structuregeometrical shape, the types of building construction materials, the differences ofstructure design theory, and the influence of the economic and other aspects. Besides, itbased on the requirement of architectural function, considering with the relatedstandards, and learning the development of domestic and foreign examples for reference,and so on.2. The Structure design parameters is determined. The steel frame structure andR.C frame structure are designed and calculated by using PKPM series software. It hasget some parameters of the seismic performance of the two kinds of frame structures inthe internal force, deflection, stiffness to weight ratio, shear weight ratio, the maximumlateral, inter-story displacement angle, period and vibration mode3. The three-dimensional spatial structure analysis software—PMSAP is further used for structural analysis of the steel frame structure and the R.C frame structure. Thecalculation results are all in the CQC count value enveloping range. So the correctparameters are obtained.4. Combining with the results of SATWE and PMSAP, a comparative analysis ofseismic performance is did between the Steel frame structure and the R.C.The analysisconsidered the floor quality, internal force, deformation, seismic force and structuredynamics. It has concluded that steel frame structure weight is significantly less than theR.C frame structure. And the internal force, the deformation of steel frame structure,seismic response and dynamic performance are better than that of reinforced concreteframe structure.5. According to the present economic level of local and related quota, for the twokinds of frame structure, a simple economic evaluation is did. Steel frame structure costslightly higher than the R.C frame structure.
