The ring winding structure permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) is the motor with a new type of secondary structure which has a obviousadvantage in using segmented armature type and is very applicable in theelectromagnetic launch system. This type electrical machine, which can provide ahigh thrust density and a high current density, has a moving body with light quality,so its acceleration is very high. Analytic calculation﹑finite element method(FEM)and experimental measurement are the research methods those are applied in thispaper for the analysis of the performance of the motor, and accumulate some basicdate for this motor.Firstly, the electromagnetic field analysis of the ring winding structurepermanent magnet linear synchronous motor is completed by the method of Fourierdecomposition, and the magnetic circuit structure of this motor is given by theanalysis result. The magnetic density distribution function is expressed throughsolving the Poisson’s equations of this electromagnetic field and taking the sloteffect into account.Secondly, the electromagnetic parameters of this motor, including windingfactor﹑resistance﹑inductance and induced electromotive force, are calculated.Inductance is the point because of the particularity of ring winding structure. Theperformance of the motor is studied by setting up mathematical model of the motor.Thirdly, this paper builds the finite element simulation models to optimize thestructure and the electromagnetic parameters for better performance of the motor,and considers the influence of pole-skewing. These results confirm theelectromagnetic field analysis. The laboratory tests are processed after manufacturedthe prototype.In the last place, a comparison of the motor and the other ring windingstructure motor which has a moving body with ferrite yoke is made by FEM,considering the current density and the displacement of the moving body. It provesthis type motor indeed has a superiority.
