Sedimentation is an ancient particle separation unit. The design based on idealsedimentation theory and shallow tank theory has also limited its development. Existingcoagulation sedimentation experiments are mostly static experiments, Floc is oftenobtained through static settled water, ignoring the evolution of flocs in thesedimentation under various conditions of sedimentation. water quality will showdifferent characteristics. Analyzing it based on fractal theory and the statistical law canprovide guidance to the design of sedimentation tank. Stability when flow changes isessential for the running of sedimentation tank, application of online monitoringtechnology to monitor the water quality can predict operating conditions ofsedimentation.Based on coagulation and sedimentation continuous-flow experiment, this article isto study the evolution of particles in sedimentation unit in dynamic conditions. We usethe particle counter, online turbidity meter to detect particle numbers and turbidity ineach area, floc recognition technique to detect particles in settled water As the particlesin sinking water are most small particles, to solve this we design folded platesedimentation tank, and we also study their adaptability when flow changes.Experiment results show that at low turbidity and high turbidity, water in each areaof inclined plate sedimentation show different characteristics, about particle sizedistribution, low turbidity zone is at higher centralization than high turbidity zone.Fractal dimension of granularity is less associated with turbidity, while particle numbersand turbidity in a particular region has a good linear relationship. An analysis ofaggregates in water after the sinking found that there are two typical characteristics ofaggregates: circular and strip.Flow change experiment on two tank shows, inclined plate sedimentation tank isadapted to flow change both in low and normal turbidity. While folded platesedimentation tank is more adapted to normal turbidity, because it runs bad in lowturbidity when flow changes. The particle size distribution has different characteristicsin each area, the centralization of particles is in distribute area of inclined platesedimentation tank, while the centralization of particles is between distribute area andfolded plate area in folded plate sedimentation tank As to the characteristics of sinkingwater, the turbidity and particle numbers are both higher, but less small particles, it will decrease the small particles after filtration process. Folded plate sedimentation in eacharea has larger particle size fractal dimension and more large particles.
