Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) has two power sources of engine andmotor and rechargeable energy storage device, which uses a higher proportion ofelectrical energy and thus leads to better fuel economy and fewer emissions thantraditional non-rechargeable Hybrid Electric Vehicle. So PHEV is a kind of prospectsfor the development of hybrid electric vehicles. The background of this paper is theproject coorperated with Foton Bus Company. In this paper, a PHEV control strategy isstudied, an integrated development platform for hybrid vehicle controller is builded, andPHEV controller software is developed on this platform. An integrated development platform of hybrid vehicle controller based on model isdeveloped. The simulation models of PHEV controller and powertrain components arecreated in the Matlab/Simulink environment. On this basis, a forward looking off-linesimulation platform is builded for components selection and control strategydevelopment. Based on VeriStand software and embedded PC hardware, a RapidControl Prototyping (RCP) system and a Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) system arebuilded. By connecting the RCP and the HIL system, a real-time simulation platform isconstructed for the verification of the communication function and the control strategy. The PHEV control strategy is developed in Matlab/Simulink environment to realize thecontrol function of power on and off, energy distribution, dynamic coordination andfault management. The control strategies are analysed and verified on the developedoff-time and real-time simulation platform. The RCP system is used on test bench for component characteristics test. Thedevelopment platform of hybrid vehicle controller constructed in the paper has beensuccessfully applied in PHEV control strategy study. The off-line and real-timesimulation test showed that the developed PHEV control strategy can meet functionalrequirements.
