How to evaluate the slope stability and the trend of development and deformation, havebeen hot issues in geotechnical engineering world. With the development of economy, thedemand for energy is getting greater and greater and the slope problems involved are moreand more. Especially in hydroelectric, the stability of high-steep rock slope is usually neededto be considered. Therefore, in water conservancy and hydropower engineering, it issignificant to analyze and study the natural slope and the artificial slope and evaluate thefeatures of slope stability for project construction and operation.This paper takes the slope engineering of Zhen’an pumped storage power station inShan’xi for research object. On the basis of expounding structure type of the slope and failuremodes and the characteristics of hydropower slope, the method of BQ classification andmodified CSMR classification are adopted to study the rock masses quality of dam abutment,in order to analyze the stability of abutment slope in general. According to the statisticalmeasurements results of discontinuities in site and the test results of mechanical parameter ofrock and discontinuities in interior, the simulation method for network connective rate ofjoints and fissures and Hoek-Brown empirical formula and shear and deformation test in situare separately utilized to synthetically give the proposed values for shear strength anddeformation modulus of slope rock masses. On this basis, in accordance with the criterion ofMohr-Coulomb shear strength, the finite element method is applied to analyze the stress andstrain fields of abutment slope and the strength reduction method is utilized to evaluate theintegral stability of abutment slope. At the same time, considering the local instabilityphenomenons that may occur under the conditions of combination discontinuities andhillslope, the principle of plane projection and block theory are adopted to calculate thestability coefficients for instability random blocks of abutment slope under the conditions ofnatural and earthquake and rainstorm. The ultimate balance theory and finite element shearstrength reduction method are utilized to evaluate the stability for import and export slope oftunnel spillway and the talus slide of within the reservoir under the different conditions. Theimportant basis are provided for engineering design and constructions.
