This paper took arch bridges with concretefilled steel tubular dumbbell-shaped rib as the engineering background for the reasons ofspecial section format, different complicated conditions under stress while concreting battenplates and unreasonable construction sequence. MIDAS/Civil models were developed toanalyze the two different concreting types of batten plates which provided the theoreticalbasis for the further studies of the construction security and the overall stability. In order toincrease the pace of the construction, this paper also optimized the construction sequenceafter the completely shut of the arch rib. The main research content and result are as follows:(1) The paper reviewed and summarized the history of development of the arch bridgeswhich have the concrete filled steel tubular dumbbell-shaped rib and calculate thecontribution of concrete in the rib to the dumbbell-shaped steel tubular structure.(2) Comparisons were made depending on whether the batten plate is filled of concretethrough the finite element methods and analyzed the influences of the batten plate to the archstructure. This paper also compared the stress of the upper and lower edges when concretingthe steel rib, analyzed the differences of the stress, displacement, axial force and economicindexes at the stages of construction and completion, thus obtained the conclusion that thebatten plate without filling the concrete is superior when considering the RC arch bridgestructures(3) The original construction consequence was changed after the closure of the steeltubular rib.
