A Study On Mode And Conservation Of Historical Urban Space

At present, the system of the protection of historical and cultural heritage in ourcountry is consisted of three aspects--officially protected sites, conservation districts ofhistoric sites and famous historic city. The protection methods and strategy are usuallymade according to the spatial feature and historical value based on the system.Unfortunately, many elements of urban space which bear the historical information is outof listed into the protection system due to the reason of incomplete form or the loss oforiginal appearance. These historical factors which lose their features cannot be thoughthighly of. Thus they gradually disappear in the process of city development and thememory of the people. The majority of the historic city protection works in our countryare used to focus on "key protection strategy", which tent to give weight to trying torestore the appearance of the city into the one of specific ancient time. This kind ofprotection strategy just ignore the historic space which is invisible, thus make the loss ofhistoric information and cause the integrity of the urban space be destroyed.The essay tries to summarize the basic mode of historic space of the city and find outthe regular pattern of transforming the city into historic prototype and thus can proposestrategies to protection and development work. The essay is divided into three parts:The first part is about the theoretical study of the urban historic space mode. Basedon the related theoretical research, giving analysis on the concept of "urban historic space"and "urban space mode" and then make definition of "urban historic space mode". Furtherforward, giving analytic demonstration to the type and construction of urban historic spacemode and dividing the mode into five types---prototype mode, fragment mode, structuremode, signal mode and information mode to make comparative study.The second part is about example study of the urban historic space mode. Taking thefamous historic city Xinjiang, which lies in the south of Shanxi Province, as example tofind out basic mode of urban historic space according to the its historic space revolutionprogress, and try to propose strategies to protection work in various kinds of urban historicspace mode.
