In recent years, with the development of economic globalization and fast growing ofthe shipping industry, oceans and inland waters bear a major amount of cargotransportation, so ship navigation safety is very important. Collision of ships draws moreand more attention because of casualties, property damage and environmental pollutionbrought about its disastrous consequences, which makes the improvement of the shipstructure crashworthiness very important. In this paper, test method and finite elementnumerical simulation method is ultimated to study the parameter effect on thecrashworthiness of the structure at the ship’s side, in which hit head diameter, stiffenedplate structure and the double hull structure are included.Firstly, ship collision experiment method and finite element simulation method arediscussed in this paper. The achievements of the two methods are summarized.Secondly, the basic design principle and scheme of ship side structure experimentsare discussed, including basic principle of experiment design, design of side structureexperiment model, design of model jig box, experiment device and measuring scheme.Thirdly, the test phenomena and test results of ship side structure model arediscussed. There are mainly five parts: drawing force-displacement curves, makingcomparison of test data, discussing the influence of the ram size and impact place on theresistance performance of the stiffened plate in detail, comparing resistance performanceof plate and stiffened plate, the resistance performance of double shell side structure.Then, the finite element method is used to analyze the test model before whichsimulation results are compared with test results to prove its feasibility and accuracy. Therelationship of the cell size and failure strain is studied and the curves between them isobtained, which is discussed in detail.Finally, the full text is summarized and prospected.
