With the continuous development of shipping career, the number of ships on thefairway constantly increasing, which will increase the probability of ship collision.Meanwhile, the harm caused by ship collision is often enormous, such as the pollution ofwaters caused by leakage of chemicals and crude oil and so on.Therefore, improve thecrashworthiness of ship becomes very important. Plates and stiffened panels are thebasical part of the hull structure, so the research of their failure mechanism always is thebasis of the study of the ship crashworthiness. In this paper, the experimental method, simplified analysis method and finite element numerical simulation method were adoptto study the failure mechanism of plates and stiffened panels. The main content of thispaper included:Firstly, the study status and analysis methods of the ship collision which werepresented by the domestic and foreign scholars were explained. And then the studyachievements were summarized.Secondly, collision experiment of the plates and stiffened panels were carried out, different plates and different spherical head were selected to verify the impact of thegeometric parameters to the crashworthiness of structure. The main purpose was toprovide the data basis for the study of the ship crashworthiness.Thirdly, a simplified analysis method for the analysis of the circular plates andstiffened panels was presented, and then calculated all test models with this method. Theresults, the simplified analysis method proposed in this paper can make a reasonableprediction for the crashworthiness of plates and stiffened panels. Then, the process to establish the finite element analysis models using the finiteelement software ANSYS/LS-DYNA was thoroughly introduced, all test models werecalculated by finite element numerical simulation method, and then the simulation resultswere compared with the test results, to verify the reliability of the finite element method. Finally, a summary of this paper was given, and a more in-depth study was putforward.
