During the whole process of ejecting from the launching canister, sailing underwater and coming out of water in underwater vertical launch, the missile is sailingthrough multiphase flow of air, steam and water. It also could be affected by waterhammer effect and horizontal currents in a very complicated mechanical environment.The missile sailing in water would undertake a large load, due to big density andviscosity of water. To improve the speed of missile and get rid of water launchingenvironment, a new means of gas curtain launch has been proposed. That is ventilatingto the launching canister until the formation of connectivity of gas curtain and theatmosphere which enable the missile sailing through the air.Numerical simulation and analysis method was used with the application of largecommercial software fluent CFD for comparing conventional launch and gas curtainlaunch in this paper. Studies on the hydrodynamic characteristics of the two methodsshow that gas curtain launch is effective in reducing the missile load and increasing thespeed.Then two-way Fluid-Solid coupling method was used to analyze the whole processof gas curtain launch and get the fluid hydrodynamics and structural characteristics.Influence to the fluid dynamics characteristics and structural loads under differentlaunch speed, head shape and time of launch.Through the study of this paper we know that as a new type of vertical launchvehicle in the water, the launch means of gas curtain makes it possible to get rid ofwater launching environment and reduce the missile load and increase the speed. Thestructural of the vehicle may be damaged by instantaneous load of the collapse of cavitybubble adopting conventional launch means, which may be avoid by using the launchmeans of gas curtain.
