Residual soil in our country is identified as a special kind of soil by therelevant norms. This particular soil exactly widely distributed in more economicallydeveloped southeast coastal areas. Backfill residual soil destroyed the originalstructural of residual soil. It is difficult to achieve the requirements of designwithout treatment. This kind of filled ground is common in large-scale projects, andits reinforcement treatment is very huge.It is forty years since the advent of dynamic compaction. As a cost-effectivefoundation reinforcement method, dynamic compaction is widely used in the world.High energy dynamic compaction is particularly significant for high embankmentground. Effective depth is the most important parameter for dynamic compactionmethod. However, the study of effective depth of compaction for residual soilbackfill foundation is not mature. So, it is very meaningful for the research of theeffective depth of improvement of high energy dynamic compaction of the residualsoil backfill foundation. This paper summarizes several existing authority understanding of the effectivedepth, and proposed suggested criteria in this paper. This paper mainly uses thefield test results of three large-scale projects, for the monographic study in effectivedepth of high energy dynamic compaction of the residual soil backfill foundation.By analyzing the relationship between compaction levels and effective depth ondifferent residual soil backfill foundation, obtain the empirical formula of effectivedepth witch soil nature and the energy level have been taken into account. Theconclusion of the empirical formula of effective depth in this paper not onlyprovides comparable parameters for future engineering applications, but alsoprovides the important test data for future specification revision, especiallycomplements the parameters of residual soil backfill foundation.
