The multiple advantages of no windings or no permanent magnet on the rotor, simple and reliablestructure, flexible field control and suppression have made the doubly salient machine attract muchattention in the research field of the doubly salient motor. This paper aims to research on a novelsemi-controlled rectifier topology for a DSEM and its basic characteristics, thus, laying foundations forthe theoretical research and practical application of the controllable rectifier generation. The operating principle of the SRG mode is analyzed in detail in this paper. Considering the lowrate of change with time and RMS value of the phase current in this mode, a neutral semi-controlledrectifier (NSR) topology with PWM and APC control strategies is proposed under the condition of thesame motor structure and parameters. The operating principle is given. The simulation and experimentresults show that with this novel rectifier, the rate of change with time of the phase current is raised andarea of ψ-i curve is larger thus improving the generation power of DSEM in a large load range incomparison with those in SRG mode. The influences of factors such as circuit parameters, load resistor, field current upon the generation characteristics are discussed. On the other hand, a semi-bridgerectifier (SR) topology with PWM and APC control strategies is raised to improve the generation powerof DSG2with the same analysis method of NSR.A hardware platform of semi-controlled rectifier generation is developed. The correctness oftheory and simulation analysis is verified by experiment. The research results show that with thesemi-controlled rectifier generation mode, the output power of DSEM can be effectively improvedcompared with the traditional rectifier generation mode.
