Under The Historical And Cultural City Protection Development Studies Of Xi’an Moat

The moat is a significant component of the ancient city defense system as theprecipitation of the history and culture. Also it is one of the important elements ofImperial buildings, which would influence on the performance and structure of both theancient and the modern city. As the most is in the crossing region of water and land, it isnot only a protection to balance the urban ecological structure, but also a signpost toenrich and to continue the culture of urban history. So it has a rich historical and culturalvalue. This report is focused on the features of the development of the moat, which isunder the circumstance of historical and cultural city protection, combined with theexperience of foreign historical and cultural city development to analysis the currentsituation and problems of the moat protection as well as to present my solution.This report researched the relationship between the moat, the city and the historicaland cultural city under the background of the city development of Xi’an and thehistorical change of the moat in order to point out the reason of current moat status andthe underlying causes which leads to the moat waterfront space inadequacies. Acomparative study of Chinese and foreign famous historical city waterfront as well asthe moat protection and renewal are taken. A further summary analyzed this researchto provide a helpful experience for the development and protection of Xi’an MoatWaterfront area.This project is a literature review combined with practical research and the researchdata from questionnaires. The analysis of current situation of Xi’an moat protection wastaken from the aspect of historical and cultural city protection and renewal as well as the subjects including waterscape landscape. The guiding and targeting design principlesare carried out to figure out future development and protection of the Xi’an moat.Finally a feasible suggestion of the moat landscape development is given under thebackground of the modern city development in order to ensure the vitality of the moat inthe circumstance of city development.
