Nanjing South Ancient City Mendong Historic District Space Structure Analysis

Nanjing is one of the first batch of national historical cultural city, which is one ofChina four ancient capitals. The south part of the old city is the most developedcommercial and residential area of ancient nanjing.The south part of the old city is oneof three important historical city areas of nanjing announced by nanjing historicalcultural city conservation planning.The object of the thesis is the east part of the historical Gate area of the south partof the old city, and the research area is enclosed by the historical cultural street ofSantiaoying and historical area of Shuangtangyuan.East part of the historical Gate areais one of the most important traditional residential area of the isouth part of the city,even of nanjing. It was the proof of the brilliant history of nanjing, which remains lotsof relics and traditional houses with historical and cultural meaning.In recent years,the area is in bad situation which the traditional buildings weredemolished and the settings were destroyed.However, the historical space structure andurban texture still can be seen now,thus the study of the area is very necessary.The article based on the deep investigation through the spatial morphologyanalyses the layouts, size,form and density of the street,nodes,courtyards and buildingsto summarize the spatial structure of the texture,size and materials.The article aims to provide the principles of the texture, form, size, buildings forthe conservation and renew of the historical area. Meanwhile, the conclusion can betaken as references for other relevant research.
