The accident of hazardous material transportation often incurs the fire, explosive andpoisoning due to its special physicochemical properties. Compared with the common trafficaccidents, hazardous material transportation is more harmful and with more seriousinfluence. With the large-scale equipment and large transportation quantity, the hazardousmaterial accidents are hard to be removed. The accident of hazardous material transportationcan even lead to explosion and fire accidents. Facing the increasingly grim situation, thehazardous material transportation is still in insufficient popularization, some of the transportcompanies even have no supervisory control on vehicles. So the accidents are hard tocontrol before happen, and the accurate information cannot be obtained by relevantdepartments after accidents. Therefore, the optimal opportunity to prevent accidents ismissed and serious loss would be produced.This paper introduces a hazardous vehicle real-time monitoring system with the purposeof monitoring the vehicle states. Based on the wireless sensor network, geographicalinformation system, global positioning system, and network communication technologies,the proposed method monitors the various states of hazardous material vehicles, andestimates whether they are in safe state. If the state parameters exceed the threshold, thesystem will keep a record of the significant information and inform to the monitoring center.The proposed system has the function of real-time tracking, monitoring and early warning sothat it can reduce the occurrence of accidents and economic loss.
