With the development of bearing industry, the quality of bearings is demanded muchhigher. Its automatic assembling and online measurement have been an urgent demand forthe manufacturers. The closing-up quality of tapered roller bearing internal component ismeasured by artificial sampling, which measures qualitatively. The feeling of the operator isthe way to measure product qualified or not. The method is not only ineffective, but alsoinaccurate. This paper aims at researching a digital and online measurement method for theclosing-up quality of tapered roller bearing internal components, which uses an intuitiveparameter to characterize the closing-up quality of tapered roller bearing internalcomponents. It meets the demand of tapered roller bearing automatic manufacturing, whichimproves the measurement efficiency and accuracy of products.After a large number of experiments, an ideal parameter, the radial clearance ofinternal components is found in this paper. By measuring the radial clearance of internalcomponents, the closing-up quality of tapered roller bearing internal components ismeasured. Then the measuring theory is discussed and the mechanical system andmeasuring and control system is designed.The mechanical system includes the overall bracket, measuring mechanism andcentering mechanism. Complete the major actions that include: the axial movement of themeasuring mechanism and the radial movement of the centering mechanism. Measuringmechanism is based on the measurement principle, to achieve the measurement for theclosing-up quality of tapered roller bearing internal components. Centering mechanism isused to achieve the centering of tapered roller bearing internal components.This research has designed a digital and online system for the measurement of theclosing-up quality of tapered roller bearing internal components. The measurement modulebased on virtual instrument technology and industrial personal computer (IPC) processes,analyzes, stores and displays the collected signal. The control module applies programmablelogic controller (PLC) to manage the actions of Executive devices. The PLC informs theIPC to begin sampling with a start signal. The IPC collects and analyzes radial clearancesignal of internal components. The user interface of the system is developed in LabView.The system parameters are configured in the user interface, where the analytical result is displayed as well.The measurement system is applied in the actual assembly line and used to measure theclosing-up quality of a collected tapered roller bearing and uncollected tapered rollerbearing. The results show that the accuracy of the measurement system is10m, and theefficiency of the measurement system is15s/set, so it matches the design requirement.
