With the rapid socio-economic development and people’s living standardsimprovement, worldwide energy shortage and environmental pollution has become oneof the key issues restricting the sustainable development of human development.Therefore, utilization of renewable energy and adjusting the energy structure are imminent.As one of the major institutions of primary energy consumption, power system isobligated to developing new energy generation and protecting the environment. Comparedwith other clean energy sources, wind energy resources are abundant and widelydistributed around the world, and it has great potential for development. With the windturbine manufacturing and wind power grid technology becoming more and moresophisticated, wind power has gradually become the focus of attention. However, the windpower output is stochastic and non-schedulable. If large-scale wind power is connected tothe grid, the production and operation of the power system will be changed profoundly. Inthis context, expanding and improving the traditional power system optimization theory,and studying power system optimization theory which is suitable to China’s large-scalewind power base characteristics, have great theoretical and practical significance.However, the current theory and research methods regarding long-term optimaloperation of large-scale wind power accessing to power system are not perfect. Based onthe power system optimal operation simulation engineering practice, this paper will studysome related issues of the long-term optimal operation of power system with wind power.Firstly, study medium-and-long-term output characteristics of large-scale wind poweras well as the relationship of wind power output and system load, establish the indexsystem based on the probability theory, and provide the theoretical basis and the data basefor the medium-and long-term wind farm output modeling, and then provide technicalsupport for establishing long-term optimal operation simulation model of power systemwith large-scale wind power.Secondly, establish long-term wind farm output model. This model can analysis theimpact of wind power connecting to power system to power balance, peaking balance, andenergy balance. It also can generate the curve of the wind power output of typical day ofeach month which can reflect the long-term output characteristics of large-scale wind farm.Therefore, this model can adapt to the power system optimal operation simulationengineering practice better. Thirdly, establish medium-and-long-term optimal operation simulation model ofpower system with wind power. This model is able to reflect the energy benefits, theenvironmental benefits of wind power, and the influence of power system operationreliability.Finally, apply the proposed model and method to a practical power system windpower, to analysis the wind power consumptive capacity and peaking optimization issues.The results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed model, which shows that thispaper can play the guiding role for the operation simulation work of power system withwind power.
