With the reduction of the traditional ore energy, how to use the renewable and cleanenergy become the emphasis of research and development and the key of the nationaleconomy. Quantum dots solar cells as one kind of the third generation solar cells, typicallythey are low-cost, easy-fabrication with high potential energy efficiency, which is the hotspot in recent research. Quantum dots, materials in nano-scale, are significant toapplications in fields of optoelectronics and biomedicine. Technology develops dependingon the study of new materials; in return, new materials reveal value when applied intotechnology.In this paper, the synthesis of cadmium selenium (CdSe) quantum dots, synthesis ofsulfur lead (PbS) quantum dots and the fabrication of PbS quantum dots solar cells arediscussed. Firstly, a mature and reproducible synthetic route is proposed by carryingoutthe experiments in different conditions; characterization the optical spectra to giveconclusions of the basic physical properties of quantum dot. Finally, infrared PbS quantumdots is employed to photovoltaic device–solar cell achieving the highest open voltage of0.4V, biggest short current density of4.01mA/cm2and the highest energy transferefficiency of0.45%. In the last part of this paper, the feasibility of employing the flexilesubstrate into solar cell manufacture is explored.This whole project was an integrated system to fabricate a solar cell from the verybeginning of materials synthesis to the final device fabrication and tests. The basic methodof exploring new material and applying them to devices are presented in this paper, whichcan be referenced when employing quantum dots in optoelectronic devices.
