With the characteristic of the high-head and high-capacity of Pumped Storage PowerStation, the more complex water diversion system and frequently changed pump turbineconditions, the security hidden danger in the normal operation of power station should betaken into consideration. Since the calculation of pump-turbine transient process helped todetermine the main parameters and scale in Pumped Storage Power Station, and becomethe key factor for safe operation of the pumped storage power station, it was veryimportant to make sure the reliable calculation of pump-turbine transient process.Along with the rapid development of computer in the engineering application field,the computer simulation technology, which was the one of the most important means thatcould make sure the safe working in the pumped storage plants design and operation stage,had been widely applied to the research of hydraulic transient process and the design ofactual pump turbine control system. Since the hardware-in-the-loop simulation had theadvantages of less risk, low-cost of modeling, shorter cycle and high real-time, thesimulation platform of pump-turbine transient process using the hardware-in-the-loopsimulation technology was provided.Firstly, considering the characteristics and working principle of pump turbinetransition process, the computer simulation model was built for simulating the actualdynamic behavior of the system. Moreover the B&R X20controller as the physical formof control system was put into the software environment which was used for controllingoperation of the system simulation, combining with the user-friendly interface, thehardware-in-the-loop simulation platform was established. Based on the overallframework of the hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform and the hardware environment,the platform’s software system and the function of each system module were designed andresearched in this paper, and the simulation results was comprehensively analyzed in theplatform.Finally, the simulation tests focusing on the typical example was given, in which theprocess of dynamic simulation was rapid and relatively stable, that reflected thecharacteristics of the pump turbine transient process in the corresponding conditions. Theexperimental parameters could be constantly adjusted to search for the reasonableadjustment parameters, which was advantage to effectively testing the controllerperformance indicators. Experimental results showed that the hardware-in-the-loop simulation platform for pump-turbine transient process could not only simulate the actualdynamics of the system, checked the program of system and optimize the rationality ofoperating parameters, but also had important guiding significance to the safe and reliableoperation of actual units. On top of this, it was also contribute to the research anddebugging of the controller products through the simulation in different types ofcontrollers. With the advantages of less cost, low-risk, high real-time, the platformprovided a good experimental platform for the further study of the control strategy.
