Energy problem is the first question for human to achieve sustainabledevelopment. With the development of industrialization, the consumption oftraditional energy fossil energy increases day by day, it raises many issues, such asenergy sources dried up and environmental degradation. The search of renewableenergy sources to replace fossil fuel has been a new topic for the human society today.Biomass energy as a kind of renewable energy, its reserves is huge, and it has lots ofadvantages, such as widespread, renewable and less-pollution.The combustion of biomass briquette is a main direction for biomass energy to betransformation and availability, and biomass briquette fuel is widely used by peoplefor many merits. Today the technology of biomass briquette fuels has been mature inChina, but the research of combustion equipment of the fuel is rare, because of thedifferent of characters between biomass briquette fuels and coal, if we use biomassbriquette fuels on the traditional coal-fired boiler, it will arouse problems such as lowcombustion efficiency and high gaseous pollutant. So the research of designingdedicated combustion equipment for biomass particles forming fuels is significantmeaningful.Based on the theoretical analysis of combustion characteristic of the biomassbriquette, the present paper has made a design and research on the combustionequipment of the biomass briquette, and the furnace hearth and grate has beendesigned and manufactured. Then the combustion performance test and analysis hasbeen done by corn straw briquette fuels under four conditions. The main results are asfollows:1) The volatile component of biomass briquette is high but the ash and carboncontent is low, and the sulphur content is little, so it can realize a clean combustion.Besides, it has many advantages such as abundant resources, high energy density,convenient transportation and storage and so on, so it has been an important development direction of future energy utilization.2) Furnace hearth and grate and many other parameters of biomass briquettemechanically fired boiler are differ from industrial coal boiler, thus, the special burnequipment which was appropriate for biomass briquette combustion has beendesigned according to the combustion characteristic of biomass briquette fuel, inwhich active grate area, grate heat release rate, furnace volume and furnace volumeheat release rate are5.6m2,701kW/m2,13m3,302kW/m3, respectively.3) Design parameters for arching which based on momentum synthesis algorithmhave been calculated and those face arch height is1.8m, face arch dip angle is30°,face arch cover fire grate length is0.7m, rear arch height is1.2m, rear arch dip angleis8°, rear arch cover fire grate length is1.9m, respectively.4) NOx、CO、SO2and ash content in furnace exit flue gas of this combustionequipment are accordance with relevant national boiler atmospheric emissions ofenvironmental standards, which ensure the energy and environment clean.5) Incomplete combustion loss of gas and solid incomplete combustion loss in thiscombustion equipment can be as low as0.32%and1.28%respectively, in addition,combustion efficiency can be as high as98.40%, and those various performanceindexes can meet the design requirements.
