With the speeding up of urbanization process,urban heat island is becoming even moreserious. An increasing number of cities in the world are seriously affected by UHI and buildingenergy consumption is influenced significantly.The influence degree of the heat island effect is discussed in different areas of Wuhan city.Firstly, through consulting the UHI research results from the domestic and foreign references, thelayout and structure of the thermal environment in Wuhan city, including its related CFDvalidation, is further analyzed. Moreover, the energy consumption simulation of a certain officebuilding has been done in Wuhan city. The analysis result reflects the accumulative total coolingload of the office building grows up to7.7%every year with thermal environment temperaturerising1centigrade around the buildings.In order to clearly illustrate the ease that GSHP has done to UHI, a residence community inWuhan city has been taken as an example through CFD. The thermal environment of thecommunity has been simulated in two different modes, one is in conventional air-conditioning,and the other is in GSHP. It is concluded that GSHP helps to alleviate the environmenttemperature around residential buildings. And the environment temperature with GSHP is aboutan average of2centigrades lower than that with conventional air-conditioning.Economy analysis of three air-conditioning modes indicates that even though the initialinvestment of GSHP is higher, its operation cost is lower. Furthermore, contrasting VRVair-condition system and air cooling heat pump system, the reduction of CO2emission is20.5kg/m~2and17.7kg/m~2respectively every year by using GSHP. GSHP helps to reduceemissions of greenhouse gase and the recovery stage is less than its operating life. Therefore,GSHP plays an important role in alleviating UHI.
