At present in China, reservoir bank stability problems exist in the vast majority of waterconservancy and hydropower project which have been constructed or proposed. So carryingout some research of slope instability mode and deeply investigating the mechanism of slopefailure have a very important significance of proposing the corresponding countermeasures.According to the profile shapes, the hydrogeology conditions, the operation mode andthe other features of the landslide No.1at Xiaolangdi reservoir bank.This paper selects the materials which is similar to the rock and soil to make a smallscale framed physical model of the landslide and at the same time, installing internalmeasurement sensors such as inclinometers, earth pressure gauges, osmometers in thelandslide model, setting the slope external deformation measurement network, and setcontinuous monitoring. The failure characteristics and law of the model landslide can beanalysis by using the measurement result.Under the influence by single factor and multi-factors of the external environment suchas rainfall and reservoir water level fluctuation, the soil reservoir bank slope is occurringwetting deformation and changing from unsaturated to saturated soil. Considering the abovefactors, the GEO-STUDIO software can be used to simulate the variation of internaldisplacement, seepage pressure and earth pressure of the bank slope model during the processof the reservoir drainage and rainfall. The results can be compared with the observation testresults of the indoor slope model.
