Marine gas turbine exhaust volute is an important component that connects power turbineand exhaust system, it can collect gas from power turbine exhaust, then reduce velocity andincrease static pressure, and make flow direction change. According to the differentrequirements of the ship for exhaust system, the Marine exhaust volute can be roughly dividedinto elbow type, full volute and box type. Due to the difference of the volute structure, theinfluence factors on volute performance are different. This paper will research on theperformance of volutes through the numerical simulation method, it’s focused on which thechange of volutes’ structure parameters can bring the change of pressure loss and the velocityuniformity, and establish their change regularity, then provide valuable reference for thesubsequent design of the exhaust volute. This paper main research works are as follows:1. According to the difference of axial length and export height of the volute, establish aseries of three-dimensional models of elbow type exhaust volute, seeing about that changeregularity of the exhaust volute performance when axial length and height change are changed.2. Introduce a design method of equal velocity box type exhaust volute, including ringdiffuser and collection shell, and utilize this design method to establish different axial lengthmodels, analyze flow characteristic in the volute, and get change regularity of total pressureloss coefficient when the axial length is changed.3. Axial length, radial scale, diffuser expansion angle and ratio of diffuser into collectionshell will influence performance of box type volute with ring diffuser, utilize orthogonalexperiment method and range analysis method to determine primary and secondary relations offactors, at the same time, separately inspect each factor for the effect on the performance of theexhaust volute.4. Flow from power turbine is not along axial direction when enter into the volute, but existprerotation angles; inspect different prerotation angles for the effect on the performance of theexhaust volute.5. To improve box type exhaust volute case structure, in order to get less pressure loss andbetter velocity uniformity.
