Because of the multiple, frequent and powerful lightning activity in Dongguan area,10kV distributionnetwork adores a large number of lightning arrester to prevent grid failures caused by lightning strike. But due tolarge amounts of lightning arrester installation and related departments’ imperfect management, operationalmaintenance of1okV distribution network, the frequency of damage of lightning arrester and loss of the ability oflightning protection increase largely. And because one end of the arrester is directly connected to the conductor,replacing damaged arrester needs power outage, which to a certain extent, affects the power supply reliability. Inaddition, line trip out accident caused by lightning striken arrester often occurs. Therefore, researching on the faulttypes of10kV distribution network arrester, analyzing its fault causes and providing theoretical basis for theselection, installation and operational maintenance of arrester are very significant to reduce the distributionnetwork trip out rate caused by arrester faults.This subject takes the2011~2012operation statistics of Dongguan area as sample, analyzes10kvdistribution network arrester fault characteristics, fault types and fault ratio of the region and finds out the causesof different types of faults according to the research on arrester’s structure, material production process and thecharacteristics of Dongguan lightning space-time distribution. The accident frequency of lightning arresterdamage caused by lightning strike is related to the frequency of lightning activity and the amplitude of lightningcurrent. This subject outlines the ground flash distribution map and builds the lightning current amplitudeprobability distribution function according to a recent decade’s lightning positioning data of Dongguan area.Setting up the operation life model of10kV distribution network arresters based on the above two parameters andevaluating the arrester life expectation in different ground flash level area provide guideline for the formulation ofthe area’s different distribution network arrester operating maintenance.In the end, according to the process of arrester selection, installation and operation, this paper puts forwardthe requirements that arrester test should be taken strictly in accordance with regulations before delivery out offactory, that sampling test of arrester should be stricter and that unqualified products be timely eliminated.Standard installation of lightning arrester ontology, earthing wire and earthing body, strengthened managementand detection of operating arresters, timely discovery of arrester faults or arresters with hidden dangers and othermeasures like these, provide reference for reducing fault rate of distribution network.
