The expressway electromechanical project is also called "Expressway IntelligentTransportation Systematic Project". To the expressway companies, It is a very importantsubject whether they have a stable, efficient and reliable expressway electromechanicalsystem.At the meanwhile, the expressway companies very concern themself about whetherthe application of the new technology can reduce the cost of construction and operation.Therefore, the design and construction is required to adopt suited technique to keep pace withthe times.The expressway electromechanical project is divided into "Three systems" and"Tunnel electromechanical systems"."Three systems" includes the monitoring system (tollstation and road monitoring), the charging system and the communications system, and"Tunnel electromechanical systems" generally has the tunnel monitoring system, the tunnelventilated and lighting system, the tunnel power supply system and the tunnel fire alarmsystem and other categories.Nowadays, optical transport network that based on synchronous digital hierarchy(SDH) has been widely used in expressway private wire network. However, with the increaseof IP broadband services which focuses on the expressway video monitoring, SDH that withcircuit switching as the core technology, is now getting more and more difficult in carryingthe massive packet data service. The expressways which are in operation or which are underconstruction mainly has three types of communication and video monitoring systems. Thefirst type is Hybrid Network that consists of SDH network plus point-to-point video opticalmultiplexer. SDH network is mainly for the data control service of the charging system andthe field equipment, and point-to-point video optical multiplexer is mainly for the videomonitoring service. While in actual use, SDH only gives support to a small flow of dataservice, and the using of the system is not high efficient. And the enormous and complexvideo optical multiplexer system has restricted the normal usage and maintenance of thisservice. The second type consists of IP OVER SDH technology and Ethernet (access network which is made up of optical transceiver and exchange board). Compared with the former, thisarchitecture has made full use of SDH broadband. But there are still two problems that SDHnetwork can’t completely support IP broadband service, and that the usage of opticaltransceiver can’t take full advantage of fiber resourcesThe third architecture is using Gigabit Ethernet. This project can solve the IPtransmission problem very well, but it is not able to support OAM and TDM service verycommendably. To solve these problems, this article proposed PTN+EPON solutioncombining the existing issues within the expressway system operation and the demands offuture services. The PTN is to solve the packet data transmission requirements and meantimeto take account of TDM service. As the access network, the application of EPON in themarket is a big success. This solution not only pays attention to the changes in expresswaybusiness demands, but also takes future requirements into account, and improves thereliability of the system at the meantime. The solution of this article focuses on theconstruction cost which the operating unit is very concern about,and is testified its feasibilityfrom the aspects of technology and cost.
