Because of various characteristics mainly in aspects of the high performance,stable operation and microminiaturization, permanent magnet synchronous motoris applied increasingly in different fields. The structure of external rotor motorhas great differences from the ordinary one, as the external rotor is locatedoutside and stator is inside. Based on its special structures, the external rotormotor can obtain larger gap diameter and moment of inertia more easily, whichresults in massive improvement of the rotor performance, comparing with theordinary motor with the same diameter. Therefore, the research of the externalrotor motor appeals to personnel in the electric field. Compared with the ordinarymotors, the armature stamping of FPMSG has a small number of slots whichreduces the difficulty of manufacturing motor armature iron core punching sheetand the influence of generator voltage waveform of harmonic. At the same time,this design is more suitable for the requirements of generator with multiple polesand few slots. As each stator tooth is wound on by some winding stator coils, theusage of copper, located in the winding head of stator, is reduced, which reducesthe cost of the generator. In addition, the stator teeth can stagger stator teethand rotor magnetic poles mutually, consequently the cogging torque can bedecreased effectively.As for the modern structure of generator designed in the paper, it has notbeen researched deeply. Therefore, it is necessary to have a further research. Thispaper will begin with the introduction of the structure features of external rotorpermanent magnet synchronous generator. Next step, it will explore the matching requirements of numbers of slots and poles of the external rotor and fractional-slot concentrated winding permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG).Following on, the process of main parameter design of the generator will bediscussed, which includes the main sizes of generator, the materials and sizes ofpermanent magnet, and the type of stator slot. Using the “Ansoft” finite elementsoftware simulation motor prototype. Then analyses the No-load characteristic,combining the load characteristics of the external circuit, and then simulation thecogging torque waveform. According to the structure of the motor, found themethod for reducing cogging torque. At last using the VB language to auxiliarydesign this motor. The concrete contents include: preparation of electromagneticcalculation program, design of visual man-machine interface. To analyze theimpact permanent magnet generator voltage regulation rate of some importantparameters by the software. At last To optimize the design of motor.
