The division of finite element mesh is the prerequisite of engineering analysis, the meshtype including boundary finite element mesh and solid finite element mesh. For the2D mesh,especially the quadrilateral mesh, many methods at present deal with the model boundarydirectly,they are easily restricted by the complexity of CAD models and inefficient. On theother hand, for the3D mesh, especially hexahedral mesh, at present has some shortcoming,such as the division speed is slow and the mesh quality is not satisfactory and so on.While reading and analysing many papers home and abroad, this thesis use the conceptof cellular topology component to explore and research in the finite element mesh generationbased on solid model and surface model, the specific content includes several parts asfollows:1. Researching the method of quadrilateral mesh generation based on solid model.Firstly, three-dimensional geometric solid is divided into many simple cubic cells in threedimensions, then one or more quadrilateral sheet(s) will be projected onto the boundarysurface of three-dimensional geometric solid to generate quadrilateral finite element mesh.The method is not easily restricted by the complexity of the three-dimensional geometricsolid, and the algorithm is of low complexity. This algorithm has been applied for a patentand get the authorization already, No.: ZL200810011852.5.2. Researching the method of quadrilateral mesh generation based on surface model.There are two methods are used to generate quadrilateral mesh generation of surface model:regular grid method in1and division of trianglar mesh. It could generate quadrilateral finiteelement mesh for any surface model.3. Researching the method of mesh optimization for the quadrilateral finite elementmesh generated in1. There are also two methods are used: holding critical features andadjusting mesh nodes physically. The quality of mesh has been improved to some extent.4. Researching the method of hexahedral mesh generation based on solid model. Thebasic idea of grid method in1are used to generate hexahedral mesh. 5. Developing the prototype system of mesh generation based on1,2,3,4. We couldeasily control the density of mesh generation by set the mesh parameter. And improving theform of DPM mesh data file, so it could save both quadrilateral mesh data and hexahedralmesh data. Also, the visualization function of the prototype system is available, the user couldcheck the quality of generated mesh comfortablely and intuitionally.
