Mesh generation is one of important research fields for the FEM analysis and computation. On the basis of vastly reading and referring relevant papers, the first chapter of this thesis introduces, analyzes and reviews the currently popular mesh generation methods, and previews the research directions in the future. The Second Chapter mainly introduces the basic concept of the paving method, a new mesh generation method, and makes some improvement aim at the defect of the method. The third chapter analyzes several mesh quality smoothing and optimization methods, and imports a method that optimizes the node numbers to reduce the semi-bandwidth of rigidity matrix. It is emphatically detailed about how to design and develop a full-quadrilateral finite elements mesh generator (MeshFEM V1.0) in the fourth chapter, and proves the validity of the program through some examples generated by the mesh generator. The fifth chapter introduces some three-dimensional FEM mesh generation methods, and points out the trend of them. The last chapter comes to some conclusions about the finite element fore treatment techniques and the main research problems of this paper (the paving method and the optimizations of the grid quality and node numbers), points out the existing problems, and refers to the work direction in the future.
