Pipeline is widely used in a lot of engineering fields and daily life, but it also causes thevibrations and noises. This paper has made a brief introduction to the research status quo of thepipeline vibration mechanism, and then a particular commentary on the pipeline vibration controltechnology. Of all kinds of such technologies, the so-called passive dynamic vibration absorbers(DVA) can be said to be simple and effective.Firstly, the vibration of the pipeline in a practical project is tested and the results show thatit is the superposition of vibrations in multiple directions, and then the MDOF-DVA used inpipeline is designed basing on the passive dynamic vibration absorbing principle. It is composedof several wire ropes and one added mass, and can reduce the radial and axial vibrations of thepipeline at the same time.Secondly, the elastic properties of wire rope are tested and it manifests that the stiffnesscharacteristics of wire rope show a weakly cubic nonlinearity. And then the mechanical model ofthe nonlinear DVA is established, and the theoretical analyses show that its working frequencyband is wider than DVA, but its central working frequency has changed a little. It must beconsidered while designing the parameters. From the energy standpoint, the vibration absorptionefficiency is analyzed without using the mass or stiffness of the pipeline, which should bedifficult to measure in projects. The results show that, if the frequency of exciting force is withinthe range of natural frequencies of vibration absorbers, most of the vibration energy of pipelinewill transfer to the added mass. The weakly nonlinear DVA with cubic stiffness performancesbetter than DVA, but its vibration absorption efficiency is not only relation to the nonlinear termbut also to the amplitude of added mass. Finally, the model analysis of the MDOF-DVA is made using the general finite elementanalysis software ANSYS. Its first and second modals are both the superposition of radial andaxial vibration, and the third modal is rotation about axial, so it can control the radial, axialvibration and rotation about axial of the pipeline at the same time. An experiment is actualized toverify the vibration absorption efficiency of the MDOF-DVA used in pipeline, and the resultsshow that, it can reduce both radial and axial vibrations of the pipeline if the design isreasonable.
