In recent years, linear switched-flux PM machine (LSFPMM) has become one of research hotspots in linear machine area. Since both PMs and aramture windings are located in the same side, LSFPMM evidently reduces manufacture cost. Besides that, it still holds many advantages of conventional PM machines, such as high thrust force density and high system efficiency. In general, LSFPMM is obtained from the corresponding cutting and unrolling rotary electrical machine. However, linear machines exist other configurations due to their own characteristics. On viewing this point, this thesis put forward LSFPMM with odd poles primary and investigated its performance in detail.The thesis analysed LSFPMM with odd poles parimay in many aspects. The operation principle and the mathmatical model were introduced in the first place. Based on the the mathmatical model, this thesis investigated the primary pole number equation and drew the conclusion of adopting odd pole primary number for LSFPMM. Moreover, the secondary pole number was disscussed by analytical method and winding connection was also determined, which constructed the basic theory of LSFPMM with odd poles priamry. After the determination of pole number combination, a novel9/10primary/secondary LSFPMM was chosen and analysed by finite element analysis (FEA). During the analysis procedure, many results were interpretated in detail, which was beneficial to understanding the characteristics of the electrical machines. In order to solve the problem that airgap field is hard to be adjusted, mechanically adjusted variable-flux concept was applied. The size of mechanical adjuster was decided and the performances were demonstrated as well. Since mechanical adjuster application could also decrease the normal force, the assembly of LSFPMM also becomes easy. Finally, the amendment of the primary was shown taking the production into account.The thesis solves some problems of LSFPMM with odd pole primary, it benefits the optimal design and analysis.
