| The core mission of architectural design is modelong. In the ancient times when peoplebegan to design, they use the models made of wood which are used in designing by allcraftsmen including Lu Ban. For thousands of year, people have kept on building andthere are profound deposits of the architectural design which have passed from father toson. The architect found that every three-dimensional object will objects a uniqueshadow on a two-dimensional plane. They have established2D design systems to avoidthe inconvenient of making entity models and to reduce the time of modifying thedesigns. The way reflecting the3D vision in2D is just the useless expediency for thelimits of tools.The2D design systerm have restricted the architects’ thoughts for a long time, because it’s against the natural rules when the human brain carrys on the designactivities. The natural idea to design a space: first there will be a general imagine in ourbrains---the draft of model in our mind; then by using the drafts and entity models wekeep deepening the impression until it is exactly the one in our mind and the design isalmost completed; finially we express our solution in2D system. In such an old systemthe architects express design concepts by2D drawings and this gradually become themain professional skills of designers and one of the standards to meamure the designability which has not been shaked for thousands of years. So the buildings in medievaltimes are all in cubic shape, symmetrical and monotonous. When it came toRenaissance, this limitation is still not broken. What is improved and is rejuvenated isthe surface adornment of the constructions, so an extreme school called Baroque cameout. The rising of modern architecture is actually a revolution to the2D system.Architects should not be tied by some fixed mode of thinking. The starting point of ourdesign work is always daring thinking and enthusiastical aspire for the architectural art.Since Le corbusier called on “a new buildingâ€, after a long-term development themodern architecture is still vigorous. Until now the architectural design has changed unpredictably and all kinds of ideas has enchanced each other’s beauty. How to measurethe architect’s professional skills could no longer be the drawing level. CAD (ComputerAided Design) has liberated the architects from the plates. It is no longer difficult to draw a design drawing efficiently. Ideas are the measurement of the architects’professional skill level. The creative idea which fits the clients’ requirement and excitepeople by its novelty is our aspirations and the key to succeed. Nowadays in designwork there is a basic consensus: there is no design drawing can’t be drawn and builtexcept you dare not to want to.What support our imagination to creativity is the development and progress ofcomputer science. The support of the traditional computer software aided architecturaldesign is excellent, but they are still limited. This paper analyzed the development and merits of the traditioanal CAAD indetails. Especially it point out that the crux which do not meet “focus on modeling indesign workâ€. BIM conform to the idea. BIM is the English abbreviation of BuildingInformation Modeling. This is a new research over the past10or20years. The maturetheory and the completed tool make BIM possible to popularise.During three years of graduate syudy the author did some learning research forBIM and will introduce it in this paper. After that the author will also describe two realproject which used the Revit Architecture software in the design work. The primaryconclusions and experience are summed up througth practice. The author deeply hopethat this paper can promote the popularization of BIM in construction industry of ourcountry. |
