Water mist is used as an efficient extinguishing media instead of banned halogen-basedfireextinguishing agent. This water mist serves as candidate agent of suppression systemforelectronic equipment fire. The characteristics of the water mist were obtained bythree-dimensional Laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV)/adaptive phase velocimetry (APV).Eight kinds of water mist with different droplet size, different velocity and caliber of mist jetwere used to suppress the fire.Firstly, this paper briefly described the research background and research status.Secondly, it describes the classification of water mist, water mist performance parameters aswell as water mist extinguishing mechanism in detail. Thirdly, According to water mistspecification develop a total flooding water mist fire suppression test. And then, according tothe test result assess the total flooding water mist extinguishing system performance whichinstalled diffident kind of sprinkler head. And this test is aimed at selecting a highextinguishing efficiency water mist nozzles which apply to the500m3space.According to the water mist parameters obtained by the cold test, we set the rightsimulation parameters and Use the Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS)software to simulate theexperiment. Experimental and simulation result show that in the same total flooding watermist fire suppression system, the time of putting out the6MW fire is less than the time ofextinguishing the1MW fire. Extinguishing the same fire the high-pressure water mist firesuppression systems consume less water than the low-pressure system.The simulation result shows that the water mist can reduce the temperature and dilute theconcentration of oxygen in the test spce. In addition, water mist will increase the smokeconcentration, and reduce carbon monoxide generation in the experiment space.
