Conventional voltage source DSTATCOM is the equivalent of AC voltage source with the shortcoming of regulating the inactive power only which limits its application range dramatically. As a comparison, the DSTATCOM based on active power energy storage equipment has a huge enhancement in the performance. Contemporary flywheel energy storage system (FESS) is a combination of composite flywheel, high speed motor and high efficient power electronics converter, having great value in engineering. It is suitable for the field of high power pulse supply and power quality enhancement. As a consequence, the DSTATCOM based on FESS will have a good prospect.Firstly, this paper analyzed the principle and control algorithm of the main circuit. And then the complex vector analysis method was adopted to analyze the discrete time model of the closed loop system in the synchronous rotating reference. The result showed that the conventional PI current regulator in the synchronous rotating reference was sensitive to the circuit parameters. Besides, the intrinsic digital delay had a detrimental effect on the stability of the closed loop system. So the complex vector PI current regulator and digital delay compensation method were proposed to solve the problems above. In addition to those, according to the dynamic stiffness function, this paper introduced the virtual resistor method to improve the dynamic stiffness performance of the entire system.Based on the principle, this paper used Matlab/Simulink to simulate the control algorithm for varifying purpose. And in the further step, a30kW FESS protype platform was built. The implementations of hardware and sofeware were introduced as well. At last, the experiment was conducted and the experimental results were deminstrated. The results showed that the protype platform has rapid dynamic response and decent steady-state performance. Moreover, the results also validated the effectiveness of the principle analysis and algorithm simulation.
