The vast majority of trucks have been cab forward. In order to facilitate the repair andmaintenance of the engine, the cab of cab-over trucks are required to tilt forward. Thequality of the cab of the truck up to hundreds of kilograms, human alone can’t achieve thecab tilting forward and that must be bolstered by tilting mechanism. The paper takes a lighttruck cab for example, the insurance of the light of cab tilting on the premise that designand calculate cab tilting mechanism core components of the torsion bar structure, size,material and other parameters. According to structure and tilting principle of the cab todesign a compact and practical tilting mechanism for light trucks. And ensure the cabtilting reasonable and safe.Based on the working principles of cab tilting mechanism, take a light for example tocomplete the design and calculation of the parameters of its torsion bar structure. And thematerials and process of the torsion bar are determined.By CATIA, the three dimension solid model of tilting mechanism is build. Usingmodule of ANSYS Workbench Environment to finite element static analysis for torsion barin the model. The torsion bar would occur that fatigue damage and fracture due to stressconcentration between end and shaft. With simulating practical working conditions oftorsion bar, a comparison of stress contributions between conical transition section and arctransition section of torsion bar under the same stress distribution of load by static analysis.The results show that stress distribution of arc transition section more even and there is nostress concentration. The optimal structure of torsion bar is determined. With theoreticverification of finite element analysis, the fatigue life of transition section could reach thedesign requirements.The new tilting mechanism and torsion bar are manufactured based on threedimension model of tilting mechanism and optimal structure of torsion bar model.According to100hours of guaranteed load and ten thousand times of fatigue tests, thefatigue life of torsion bar prototype is got, the reasonable and credibility of the design oftorsion bar structure and finite element analysis are verified. By static tilting test of tiltingmechanism to verify that tilting force could meet tilting portability requirements.
