Transmission line as the main artery of electric power system, it’s safe operation directlyaffecting the stability of the power grid to the users and reliable power supply. And the powersystem accident usually accounts for more than50%of the lightning disturbance based onoperating experience. With the improvement of the voltage level of the transmission lines,tower height, width of the corridor is also a corresponding increase, so it’s more likely beingstruck by lightning. Therefore, the transmission line lightning protection work is veryessential.The parameters affecting the lighting flashover of transmission lines are widelyinvestigated first in this papper, the investigation on the influencing factors of transmissionlines lightning flashover and its mechanism provides reference basis for design andoperational maintenance of transmission lines lightning protection, as well as laying thefoundation for the establishment of the lightning tripping risk assessment model. The data ofthe methods, measures, equipments, matching schemes and operating effect of transmissionlines lightning protection at home and abroad presently is widely researched and arranged,and the lightning protection measures adopted are analyzed and then divided into classesaccording to the influencing factors of different lightning activities situation in differentvoltage grade, different geographical climate conditions, different tower types and differentlightning withstand level.Secondly, through extensive investigation, the monitoring data from lightinhg locationsystem is collected according to the actual situation of thunderstorm activities in the PearlRiver Delta in recent years. At the meantime, the basic structural parameters and thegeographical environment of line corridor of overhead transmission lines in a certain area ofthe Pearl River Delta are collected. After these, a corresponding database is established byanalyzing and checking the statistical information from above.Then, according to the error analysis princeple and lightning protection standerds, andwith the help of various typical lightning electrical parameters monitored from the lightninglocation system, the rule of temporal and spatial distribution of thunderstorm in a certain areaof the Pearl River Delta is analyzed, and abtained the thunderstorm distribution diagram of transmission lines corridor region in different rigions, different environment and differentvoltage levels. After doing these, the corresponnding layer database is established.In the end, based on the results of the above research, a visual software for lighningtripping risk assessment is developed to realize the function of data storage, analysis,calculation, and can automatically realize the conclusion report. The design of intelligent riskassessment software using different color to visually and divisionally show the lightning risk,to realize the respective partition display on the single factor and comprehensive factorslightning risk.
