As a novel energy-supply and network-manage technology, microgrid, which is also an important part of smart grid, not only makes the biggest usage of distributed generations, but also fulfills the demand-side energy management and maximizes the utilization of existing energy. Because the output of distributed generations based on wind, solar and other renewable energy is uncontrollable, intermittent and random, the increase of its penetration begins to have a bigger negative impact on power system. In order to ensure the economy, environmental friendly nature and reliability of microgrid, the optimal dispatching of various DG has become a new central issue in the field of modern power industrial technology. For the sake of solving those problems above, this paper researches on the optimal operation and energy management of microgrid system. And the main contents are described as follows:Firstly, this paper gives an in-depth study of DG and microgrid’s current situation both at home and abroad.Secondly, steady-state models of those distributed generators, such as photovoltaic arrays, wind turbines, fuel cells and micro turbines and the situation of energy storage device used in microgrid are stated.Thirdly, a modification of the EENS (Expected Energy Not Serve) formulation to include the total forecast error on load and wind power generation is proposed in this paper. And a multi-object dispatching algorithm considering probabilistic factors based on this novel EENS formulation which contains power-supply cost, environmental cost and EENS cost is also clarified. Finally, the optimal model aforementioned is verified with simulation on gird-connected and islanded modes respectively for a given microgrid.
